Picture quality is not controlled by one number. The source, plan, player, device, home network and broadband connection all contribute. A fast package can still buffer on weak Wi-Fi, while a modest connection can perform well when the screen is connected properly.

What speed should you plan for?
There is no single guaranteed speed because stream formats and compression differ. As a practical starting point, allow roughly 10 Mbps of stable capacity for many HD streams and around 25 to 30 Mbps for many 4K streams, plus headroom for other household activity. These are planning figures, not a promise for every channel.
Stability matters more than the headline figure
Broadband speed tests show a short snapshot. Live viewing depends on sustained delivery, low packet loss and a steady link between the router and player. Test near the device at the time you normally watch, particularly during busy evenings.
Ethernet, 5 GHz Wi-Fi and placement
Ethernet is normally the most consistent option for a fixed television. If you use Wi-Fi, 5 GHz can provide better local speed at shorter range, while 2.4 GHz travels farther but is more congested. Avoid hiding the router behind a television or inside a cabinet.
Why HD or 4K may not appear
A 4K badge does not guarantee a 4K result. The source must be available in that resolution, the plan must include it, the player and screen must support it and the connection must remain stable. Some events or on-demand titles may only be supplied in HD.
Reducing buffering
Pause downloads, restart the router and player, move closer to the router or test Ethernet. Try the same content on another supported device to separate a network issue from an app issue. Lowering the playback quality can stabilise viewing on a limited connection.
Test before committing
Use the trial on the device, network and screen you intend to keep. Check several eligible categories rather than one short clip. If an issue persists, send support the device model, connection type, approximate speed and the time the problem occurs.
